There is absolutely no denying that summers are getting hotter every year. In this blog we’ll shed some light (no pun intended ) on how it affects those of us who still want to do skin peels during the excruciatingly hot months. As the summer months roll in, many of us look forward to enjoying outdoor activities and basking in the sun’s warm embrace. However, if you’ve recently undergone a skin peel treatment, it’s essential to take extra precautions to protect and care for your delicate, freshly-treated skin. In this blog, we’ll explore some valuable tips and guidelines to help you navigate the summer season while ensuring optimal healing and maintaining the benefits of your peel.

1)Shield Your Skin from the Sun: One of the most critical steps in post-peel care during summer is protecting your skin from harmful UV rays. Always wear a broad-spectrum sunscreen with a high SPF, ideally 30 or above, and apply it generously to your face and any exposed areas of skin. Reapply every two hours, especially if you’re outdoors or perspiring.

2) Seek Shade and Avoid Peak Sun Hours: Limit your sun exposure, especially during peak hours when the sun’s rays are strongest, typically between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Seek shade whenever possible, whether it’s under a wide-brimmed hat, an umbrella, or a sunshade. By minimizing direct sun exposure, you give your skin a chance to heal and prevent further damage.

3) Stay Hydrated: Summer heat can be dehydrating, and maintaining optimal hydration is crucial for post-peel skin. Drink plenty of water throughout the day to keep your skin hydrated from within. Additionally, use a gentle, hydrating serum or moisturizer to replenish moisture levels in your skin and promote healing.
4) Gentle Cleansing: Opt for a mild, non-irritating cleanser that is free from harsh ingredients, fragrances, and exfoliants. Cleanse your face gently, using lukewarm water and your fingertips. Avoid hot water, as it can strip away natural oils and exacerbate dryness or sensitivity. Pat your skin dry with a soft towel instead of rubbing.
5) Skip Exfoliation: While exfoliation can be beneficial for maintaining healthy skin, it’s best to avoid any form of physical or chemical exfoliation immediately after a peel, especially during the summer. Allow your skin time to heal and regenerate naturally. This will prevent irritation, sensitivity, and potential damage to the delicate new skin.
6) Cool Showers and Baths: After a skin peel, opt for cool or lukewarm showers instead of hot ones. Hot water can further strip your skin of moisture and exacerbate sensitivity. Additionally, avoid using harsh soaps or scrubs and opt for gentle, fragrance-free cleansers that won’t irritate your skin.
7) Be Mindful of Pool and Ocean Water: While swimming can be refreshing during the summer, chlorine in pools and saltwater in the ocean can potentially irritate your post-peel skin. Rinse your skin thoroughly with fresh water after swimming to remove any residual chemicals and apply a soothing moisturizer afterward.
8) Patience and Consistency: Allow your skin the time it needs to heal properly. Be patient and consistent with your skincare routine, using products recommended by your skincare professional. Follow their post-peel instructions diligently, and if you have any concerns or questions, don’t hesitate to reach out to them.
